October Reminds Me of.....

I love the season of Fall! The weather becomes cool and crisp, the leaves begin to fall, big orange pumpkins and let's not forget...Pumpkin Spice Latte! One of my favorite activities to do with my students is a quick but sweet little writing piece that reflects the changes that each passing month brings throughout the school year.

When I taught first and second grade, I began this activity by reading The Important Book by Margret Wise Brown. It has to be one of my favorites and is so extremely versatile! It can be used for so many different lessons!

After I read the book to the class, we make a circle map about the month. We brainstorm together all the unique and special qualities that makes the month great!

Once the kiddos have created their circle map, they write a monthly journal entry. We begin each  month with the same prompt: (The month) reminds me of ____________, ___________, and ___________ but what I really love about (the month) is _____________________________.

It makes such a great keepsake!
Happy October!
